What’s up in the chicken market?

Poultry update Week of 4/22/2024

We all saw the news update regarding Chick-fil-a. They are having supply issues with their breast meat. There is a health crisis going on and hatch rate is way down while demand is still way up! The sized breast market is on fire along with tenders. Sized breast meat market no relief until after May. Tender market - expect supply challenges until June or July. This parlays into dark meat as its starting to get challenging. Leg quarters and thighs are getting difficult to find. The beautiful thing about the great wide world of poultry is there are ALWAYS options!!!

Chicken tip of the week: Chicken tenders are 4% of the whole bird - and when demand outweighs the supply, we have to look at all options just keep the doors open! The mission if you choose to accept it is “ASK FOR HELP.” There is a surplus of small tenders while medium and jumbo tenders are very difficult. Another option is to use breast strips. We have a flavorful sugar and salt brine that allows these strips eat very well when breaded and fried.

Next Week’s outlook: medium and jumbo tenders very difficult as well as sized breast meat and skin on breast meat.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

What is your most delicious meal that you prepare? My boneless braised short ribs with Asian BBQ sauce. Homemade Asian BBQ sauce with USDA choice boneless short ribs. So good!
